PROCEEDINGS OF “STUDENTS SECTIONS MEET”



Date: 1ST September 2018

Venue: Hotel Southern Stars on Lavelle road

The all student sections’ meet has become a key annual event for the Student Section activities of ISA Bangalore in recent years. It is held at the beginning of the year of the new Executive Committee (EC) team. The Faculty Advisor (FA) and a student leader (usually the President) of each of the ISA student chapters of all colleges associated with our section are invited to assemble and discuss in a structured way about their ongoing activities, expectations and plans for the year ahead. The tone gets set for a collaborative effort between the Bangalore section EC and the college teams.

The agenda was as follows:

Welcome address by the current section President, Dr. Sunil Shah

  1. Section President Dr. Sunil Shah presented the ISA Bangalore section and its activities during 2016- 2017, achievements, recognitions awards etc. He brought out certain specific contributions of ISA Bangalore and its involvement in catering quality services to Automation and Control fraternity.
  2. Followed by Dr. Sunil’s talk was by Mr. A. Victor Sundararaj, whose department manages the E T A ( Education, Training and Assessment) process at Infosys. He presented how Infosys as an industry has developed talent building model to bring out the change in learning approach among their employees. He narrated the Digital learning platforms deployed by Infosys which can enable domain knowledge, leadership abilities, skill development etc. He gave brief details of their Campus Connect initiative which can be opted by interested education institutes.
  3. There was a brief presidential address by previous year ISA president, Mr. Ram Kerur. He explained about what ISA B has been providing to Student sections, the constraints of time and other resources, the challenges in getting support from industries and what are the initiatives needed from the college’s side.
  4. There were presentations of individual ISA Sections from attendee institution representatives.

FEEDBACKS FROM THE GROUP DISCUSSIONS (which are not already listed above)

  1. Increase student volunteers in ISA annual events, etc
  2. Increase iACT to 2 days.
  3. Webinars can also be tried to have all college interactive events, lectures.
  4. Have a common newsletter with one co-coordinator from each college.
  5. Each section can have a local library and resources can be inter-connected.
  6. For a Projects Club – with forum to interact between alumni, NGOs. These projects can be readily used during competitions instead of starting afresh.
  7. Industry Readiness of fresh graduates – What is the gap actually? Can ISA B provide specific ideas of this? Can ISA provide articles of how real-life equipment work ( in context of subjects taught).
  8. Can problems from industry, real situations be floated for solutions to all sections to solve parallelly and conclude by the time of iACT?
  9. Have membership drive within a month followed by Faculty meet – to discuss the results of the drive and take up actions to improve membership.
  10. Procedures done in advance - for visas , concessions , calendar of events.
  11. Post the ISA chapter events on college websites. Anyone in ISA can see.
  12. Arrange experts to colleges for one-on-one networking session to evaluate real-life viability of projects taken up in Make-A-thons.
  13. If any project ideas across colleges are the same , then consider collaborative effort to take to market.
  14. Conduct 24-hour Automation hackathon.
